DJ Luke

By dadsmacandcheese

One of Luke’s pleasures in life is coming into my office and using the small remote control, which I keep on the corner of my desk, to turn on my clock/radio/cd playe.  If the door is open the slightest bit, he marches right in, grabs the remote, points it at the radio, and starts pushing buttons until he manages to turn it on (or off, or sometimes off and then on).  It’s very funny, particularly when he’s wearing his winter hat, aka his grunge band look.  (As a side note, the radio’s alarm clock often goes off at random times as a result of his button pushing.)

He used to be pretty good about putting the remote back where he found it, usually right next to my laptop, but the other day it went missing.  I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Then one day, Luke made another one of his guest dj appearances.  I was engrossed in something when he first entered and didn’t realize exactly what was going on as he rummaged through the bag by my desk, emerged with the remote, and turned the radio on.  He then proceeded to place the remote back in the bag.

I’m not sure if

1)      he felt the bag was a better spot for it,

2)      the remote had fallen into the bag at some point and he found it and assumed the bag was its new home, or

3)      he was angling for exclusive access to the remote by keeping it the bag.

Regardless, I’m glad to have the remote back.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been so lucky with the living room stereo’s remote, which has been missing for at least a month.

I often listen to sports radio, which the kids aren’t crazy about.  Charlotte will at least ask, “Dad, can we listen to music?”  Luke doesn’t even bother with asking.  He’ll just walk over to the stereo and start pushing the buttons and moving the knob.  The other day, the daily sports update suddenly turned into Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” which quickly changed into very loud “Dancing Queen,” prompting Charlotte to yell, even more loudly than the music, “Dad, Luke turned the music too loud!”

Sadly, in order to turn it down, I had to actually walk over to the stereo.  Where is that darn remote?

I hope you enjoyed today’s serving of ‘mac & cheese.’
